Every Massey Ferguson tractor needs a service kit at regular intervals. The question is which kit fits your model. Get the wrong filters and you waste time returning parts or, worse, fit something that does not seal properly and causes engine damage. This guide maps the most common MF models to the correct service kit so you can order with confidence and get straight to the job.

We stock service kits for the full Massey Ferguson range, from the classic MF 35 through to the latest 7700S and 8S series. Call 01777 838250 or email [email protected] if your model is not listed below and we will source it.

01 What is in a Massey Ferguson service kit?

A standard MF service kit contains the filters and consumables you need for a routine engine service. The exact contents vary by model, but a typical kit includes:

Standard service kit contents
  • Engine oil filter. Removes metal particles, carbon deposits and contaminants from the engine oil. Changed at every service interval.
  • Fuel filter (primary). The pre-pump filter that catches water and coarse particles before they reach the injection pump.
  • Fuel filter (secondary). The post-pump filter on models with a two-stage fuel filtration system. Not all models have a secondary fuel filter.
  • Air filter (outer element). Prevents dust, chaff and debris from entering the engine. Essential on tractors working in dusty conditions.
  • Air filter (inner/safety element). The backup element that protects the engine if the outer filter is damaged. Not included in every kit but available separately.
  • Hydraulic filter. Filters the transmission and hydraulic oil. Included in extended service kits for models with a combined sump.
  • Sump plug washer. A new crush washer prevents the sump plug from weeping oil after a service.

Some kits also include a cab air filter and fuel water separator element. If you need a complete kit with every filter for a full annual service, ask us for the extended service kit for your model.

03 Service intervals: when to change what

Massey Ferguson service intervals vary by model and engine, but the general pattern is consistent across the range.

Every 250 hours (or annually, whichever comes first)

  • Engine oil and oil filter
  • Fuel filter(s)
  • Sump plug washer
  • Drain fuel water separator

Every 500 hours

  • Air filter outer element (check every 250 hours, replace when restricted)
  • Hydraulic/transmission filter
  • Cab air filter

Every 1,000 hours (or every 2 years)

  • Air filter inner/safety element
  • Coolant check and top-up
  • Full hydraulic oil change (on models with separate hydraulic circuit)

Every 2,000 hours

  • Coolant replacement
  • Full transmission/hydraulic oil change (on combined sump models)

These are general guidelines. Always check the operator's manual for your specific model. Earlier Perkins-engined models (MF 35 MF 135 MF 165 MF 290) often run shorter oil change intervals of 125 to 200 hours because the engines are less tolerant of degraded oil.

Seasonal use tip
If your tractor sits idle for extended periods, change the oil and filters at the start of every season regardless of hours. Oil degrades over time even when the engine is not running. See our Spring Tractor Service Checklist for the full pre-season procedure.

04 OEM vs aftermarket service kits: quality and compatibility

Genuine Massey Ferguson (AGCO) filters carry the MF part number and come in branded packaging. They are made to the original specification and guaranteed to fit. They also cost significantly more than aftermarket alternatives.

Aftermarket service kits use filters manufactured by companies such as Fleetguard, Mann, Donaldson and Mahle. These are the same manufacturers that supply OEM filters to tractor brands in many cases. The filtration media, sealing gaskets and bypass valve ratings meet or match the OEM specification.

When genuine matters: If your tractor is under warranty or on an AGCO service contract, use genuine filters to protect your warranty terms. On very new engines with tight tolerances (AGCO Power Tier 5 engines in the 7S and 8S series), genuine filters are the safest choice until aftermarket manufacturers confirm compatibility.

When aftermarket works well: For every other situation. A complete aftermarket service kit typically costs 40% to 55% less than genuine, with no measurable difference in filter performance or engine protection. We have supplied aftermarket kits for MF tractors for over 30 years and the failure rate is no different from genuine.
